Abstract

The subject of this essay is a textual and qualitative analysis of a single personal testimony and ethnographic account on the phenomenology of bodily disability, The Body Silent: The Different World of the Disabled by an American cultural anthropologist Robert F. Murphy. The interpretation of the text and the narrative structure of subjective experience is placed in the context of professional biography of the author, theoretical framework of his anthropological writing and style, as well as contemporary disability studies.
