The Urban Legend About a Freshly Painted Bench that Became a Guard Post in the Barracks

Abstract

This paper analyzes the urban legend on the guard post which reconsider the rationality of the established order and hierarchical relationships. Although, in terms of its content, this urban legend belongs to the folklore of the armed forces and could be perceived as a critique of militarism or organizational culture, the application of structural-semantic analysis to it reveals messages pertaining to the broader concept of a career.
