Ako je kultura instrument razvoja, jezik nosilac kulture, a odnos između jezika i kulture kao odnos dve stranice istog novčića, onda ni uloga poslovica kao metaforičke upotrebe jezika ne može biti prenaglašena ni u kom diskursu o razvoju. Ovaj rad se bavi neprocenjivom vezom između jezika i razvoja, sa posebnim naglaskom na tome kako se upotreba poslovica i njihove pouke mogu iskoristiti da pomognu u oživljavanju moralnih/kulturnih vrednosti, i kako mogu biti vredan instrument razvoja. Ovo se može učiniti tako što bi se kao matrica uzele one Joruba izreke koje se tiču tema bliskih razvoju poput saradnje, liderskih sposobnosti, brige o drugima, saveta, kritike i kazne, razrešenja sukoba i upozoravanja.
